General (Ret.) Peter J. Schoomaker
General Peter J. Schoomaker, US Army (Retired), was recalled to active duty from retirement by the Secretary of Defense and the President on 1 August 2003 as the 35th Chief of Staff, Army, and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2003 until 2007. Prior to his first retirement, he served as Commander‑in‑Chief, U.S. Special Operations Command from 1997 to 2000. General Schoomaker spent over 35 years in a variety of command and staff assignments with both conventional and special operations forces. Now released from active duty, General Schoomaker advises on defense matters and has served on the boards of numerous public, private, and non-profit companies, including over a decade on the board of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization dedicated to educating the children of fallen special operations Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.
